Jo Rosenberger Altman is an associate in the Litigation Department at Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads, LLP.   

Ms. Altman concentrates her practice in complex commercial litigation, white collar crime, fiduciary and Orphans' Court litigation. 

Ms. Altman has represented companies and individuals in civil fraud, securities, antitrust, civil RICO, breach of fiduciary duty, products liability, breach of contract, and federal debarment actions in federal and state court.  Ms. Altman has also represented individuals in Orphans' Court litigation including guardianship, will contest, and power of attorney accounting proceedings.

In May and June 2006, Ms. Altman was part of a trial team that tried to a jury a lawsuit against a bank and brokerage firm for aiding and conspiring with a securities broker who operated an investment firm as a Ponzi Scheme.  Ms. Altman assisted in obtaining a $32.7 million verdict against the bank, the brokerage firm, and some of the officers involved.  The award was the highest jury verdict in Pennsylvania for 2006.  Ms. Altman has served on trial teams for jury and bench trials in federal and state court, and has assisted in briefing and oral argument before the Third Circuit.

Prior to joining Montgomery McCracken, Ms. Altman interned for Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Justice Max Baer.

Community Associations: 

Ms. Altman is an active volunteer with Support Center for Child Advocates and the Homeless Advocacy Project.  Her service includes representing child clients in dependency and Social Security appeal hearings.  Ms. Altman also successfully advocated on behalf of a homeless beneficiary of an estate to move into and avoid the sale of specifically devised property.  In 2006, Ms. Altman was awarded a Homeless Advocacy Project Citation in recognition of her service.

Ms. Altman is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Education:

Ms. Altman received a J.D. degree, magna cum laude, and a Certificate in International and Comparative Law from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2005 and was elected to the Order of the Coif.  While there she served as articles editor of the University of Pittsburgh Law Review and as teaching assistant in the Legal Writing Program. She received the School of Law Community Service Award and CALI Excellence for the Future Awards: Property, Civil Procedure, Antitrust and Conflict of Laws.

Ms. Altman earned a B.A. degree, summa cum laude, in History from Temple University in 2002 where she was awarded the John S. Kramer Memorial prize and nominated into Phi Beta Kappa.  She is also a graduate of the University's Honors Program.
