Lathrop B. Nelson, III is a partner in the Litigation Department at Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads, LLP. His practice concentrates on complex commercial litigation, government investigations and white collar crime, and antitrust law.
Mr. Nelson has represented clients in federal criminal matters involving antitrust, public corruption, health care fraud, tax fraud, and other federal offenses. Recent engagements include:
Mr. Nelson has also represented companies and individuals in a variety of civil matters in state and federal court, including antitrust, securities, civil fraud, products liability, and breach of contract actions. In addition, he serves as counsel to a major software manufacturer in federal copyright and trademark infringement litigation in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Mr. Nelson has argued civil and criminal matters before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third and Fourth Circuits, Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court, and federal and state trial courts, including the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, District of New Jersey, and Southern District of New York. He has also participated in arbitration and private mediation proceedings.
Prior to joining Montgomery McCracken, Mr. Nelson was a law clerk for the Honorable Eduardo C. Robreno of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Nelson is co-chair of the Philadelphia Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association's White Collar Crime Committee. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Section of Antitrust Law and Criminal Justice Section, and the Philadelphia Bar Association.
Mr. Nelson currently serves on the Chi Psi Fraternity's National Executive Council. He is also a member of the vestry of St. Peter's Church of Philadelphia.
Mr. Nelson is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Mr. Nelson received his J.D. degree in 2001 from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served as chief justice of the William Minor Lile Moot Court Board and a member of the Editorial Board of the Virginia Law Review.
Mr. Nelson graduated cum laude from Washington and Lee University in 1997 with a bachelor of arts degree in History and Politics.
