Jeffrey R. Lerman is a partner in the Litigation Department at Montgomery McCracken. His practice emphasizes business litigation, with particular expertise in the representation of insurance carriers in coverage and bad faith cases and in the insurance representation of a wide range of professionals including lawyers, accountants, teachers, psychiatrists, psychologists and other medical providers, governmental employees and officials.

Lerman has had broad trial experience in major litigation in areas involving real estate, insurance, professional liability, civil rights, governmental liability, securities, financing, defense procurement, shareholder agreements, acquisitions and contractual disputes.

For nearly twenty years, Lerman has chaired Montgomery McCracken's professional liability insurance defense practice. In this capacity he has been lead trial counsel and supervising attorney in hundreds of cases. Although Lerman's practice is principally one involving the representation of defendants, his broad trial experience includes numerous major jury trials for plaintiffs in complicated commercial litigation. Lerman has frequently lectured before lawyers and other professionals on matters including the representation of professionals, insurance coverage litigation, trial practice and ethics.

Lerman's career has spanned more than thirty years. In addition to private practice, Lerman was an Assistant District Attorney in the City of Philadelphia for approximately one and a half years. During that time he was devoted exclusively to the trial of felony and major jury cases including major drug cases, rapes and other serious sexual crimes, and serious robberies involving weapons or other aggravated circumstances.

After graduating from law school, Lerman served a judicial clerkship with Chief Martin Pence of the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii from 1972 to 1973.
