Biography

Georgette Fries Castner focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation and white collar and government investigations. She represents corporate entities, government entities and individuals in a range of industries. She also represents both public and private entities in employment matters, construction defect cases and regulatory compliance matters.

In addition to Georgette’s commercial litigation and white collar practice, she also represents colleges and other schools as well as school personnel in catastrophic injury matters. One such recent representation of a NCAA Division I college  involved a deceased student-athlete who was diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). That case was dismissed by the plaintiff with prejudice.

Prior to joining Montgomery McCracken, Georgette served as a law clerk for the Honorable Joseph F. Lisa of the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division (Ret.).

Prior to law school, Georgette served as Chief of Staff and Director of Constituent Affairs for a member of the New Jersey General Assembly. She managed the Legislative District Office and staff, coordinated the member’s legislative agenda and bill drafting, and negotiated bill drafts and amendments with committee aides, lobbyists, and other interest groups.

Selected Representations

  • Represented member of the New Jersey General Assembly before Joint Legislative Committees on Ethical Standards, which included dismissal of ethics complaint;
  • Represented pharmaceutical company in action alleging fraud and unjust enrichment arising out of pharmaceutical pricing;
  • Represented diocese, high school and high school coaching staff in a matter involving a catastrophic injury one of its football players suffered while attending football camp;
  • Trial counsel to municipality regarding easement issue involving height of dunes;
  • Represented developer and general contractor in class action construction defect case brought by homeowners. Successfully defeated class action certification and obtained favorable settlement; and
  • Represented municipality on issue of first impression regarding residents’ initiative petition to place cost of living cap on municipal expenditures, City of Ocean City v. Somerville, 403 N.J. Super. 345 (App. Div. 2008).

Georgette has also represented clients pro bono on behalf of South Jersey Legal Services, Inc. She successfully obtained SSI benefits on behalf of a child in an appeal against the United States Social Security Administration. Georgette also represented two municipalities in a recent affordable housing case before the New Jersey Supreme Court.

Academic Achievements

Georgette received a J.D., with honors, from Rutgers University School of Law-Camden. While in law school, Georgette served as Research Editor for the Rutgers Law Journal.  She was also selected as a Governor’s Executive Fellow and completed course work at the Eagleton Institute of Politics.

Georgette earned a B.S., cum laude, from The College of New Jersey. She was a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society and founding President of TCNJ’s Golden Key International Honour Society chapter.
