Georgette Fries Castner is a partner in Montgomery McCracken’s Litigation Department, Co-Chair of the Cannabis Law Practice Group, and a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee. She focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation and white collar and government investigations and represents corporate entities, government entities, and individuals in a range of industries. She regularly counsels clients on issues involving cannabis and hemp and the various federal and state regulatory requirements.

Georgette has also represented clients pro bono on behalf of South Jersey Legal Services, Inc. She successfully obtained SSI benefits on behalf of a child in an appeal against the United States Social Security Administration. Georgette also represented two municipalities, as amicus curiae, in an affordable housing case before the New Jersey Supreme Court.

Prior to joining Montgomery McCracken, Georgette served as a law clerk for the Honorable Joseph F. Lisa of the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division (Ret.).

Prior to law school, Georgette served as Chief of Staff and Director of Constituent Affairs for a member of the New Jersey General Assembly. She managed the Legislative District Office and staff, coordinated the member’s legislative agenda and bill drafting, and negotiated bill drafts and amendments with committee aides, lobbyists, and other interest groups.

Selected Representations

  • Represented a company in a contract dispute arising out of COVID 19 pandemic that resulted in dismissal by the plaintiffs.
  • Represented an entity in submitting application for dispensary license before the New Jersey Department of Health, Division of Medicinal Marijuana.
  • Trial counsel to municipality regarding easement issue involving height of dunes.
  • Represented developer and general contractor in class action construction defect case brought by homeowners. Successfully defeated class action certification and obtained favorable settlement
  • Represented municipality on issue of first impression regarding residents’ initiative petition to place cost of living cap on municipal expenditures, City of Ocean City v. Somerville, 403 N.J. Super. 345 (App. Div. 2008).

Academic Achievements

Georgette received a J.D., with honors, from Rutgers University School of Law-Camden. While in law school, Georgette served as Research Editor for the Rutgers Law Journal.  She was also selected as a Governor’s Executive Fellow and completed course work at the Eagleton Institute of Politics.

Georgette earned a B.S., cum laude, from The College of New Jersey. She was a member of the Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society and founding President of TCNJ’s Golden Key International Honour Society chapter.
