Stephen H. Vengrow is a partner in the firm’s Maritime and Transportation practice group. He focuses his practice on cargo claims, personal injuries, collisions, ship fires, and bankruptcy matters. Stephen has successfully obtained remission and reduction of customs fines and penalties imposed on vessel owners in drug cases. Among Stephen’s notable representations include an appellate victory, which halted a federal policy on vessel stowaways that had withstood all prior judicial challenges by ship owners and an appellate win in a case, which rewrote the law on the common carriage of hazardous goods.

His areas of specializations include administrative hearings and adjudication, administrative investigations, marine cargo claims litigation, collisions, ship fires, personal injuries, land transportation, insurance, and corporate litigation.

Stephen started his career in the U.S. Marine Corp. J.A.G. (Vietnam 1969-1970), and from there went to the legal department of the Federal Maritime Commission. He was previously an attorney for Sea Land Services, Inc., which was acquired by another international steamship company.

Prior to joining Montgomery McCracken, Stephen was a managing partner with the firm Cichanowicz Callan Keane Vengrow & Textor, LLP (specializing in transportation and regulatory law).
