SUMMARY:Legal\, Compliance and PR Strategies Around Campus Sexual Assault Issues Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The problem of sexual assault on college campuses recently has been drawing more intense scrutiny from government officials\, survivors’ advocates\, student organizations\, and the media.  Regardless of whether your university has been caught up in this yet\, one thing is for certain: the issue isn’t going away any time soon.\n \n\nAs colleges and universities plan for the 2014-2015 academic year\, it is imperative that their policies are fully compliant with federal\, state and local laws\, and that they be appropriately disseminated among key campus stakeholders.  Simply put\, a policy is only as strong as its execution.\n \n\nWe invite you to take part in an important webinar that reviews the legal and communications challenges around crafting and socializing the most effective policies regarding sexual assault incidents on campus.  This presentation will draw on the combined experience of Montgomery McCracken\, a leader in higher education law\, and MWW\, a global public relations firm with deep experience in crisis communications and planning. Our two organizations take the unique view that compliance and communications are two sides of the same coin.\n \n\nTopics will include:\n \n\nAuditing your policies for federal\, state and local compliance\nUnderstanding the limits of public disclosure\nUntangling overlapping laws and guidelines\nCreating and socializing a crisis communications plan\nDeveloping complementary strategies for stakeholder engagement\n\n\nDATES AND TIMES:\n \n\nTuesday\, May 27\, 2:00 p.m. EST\nMonday\, June 2\, 2:00 p.m. EST\n\n\nA recording of the webinar is available here and you may also view the materials.\n \n\nMay 27\, 2014 at 2:00 PM – June 2\, 2014 at 3:00 PM \n\n;Download Event Attachment

SUMMARY:PASE's 2014 College Forum and Fair
DESCRIPTION:PASE invites university and college admissions staff to meet New York area community-based organizations\, which have college prep programs\, at their 2014 College Forum and Fair. PASE accomplishes its mission by building the capacity of individual afterschool staff\, youth-serving organizations\, and the field as a whole\, all with the goal of increasing the availability of quality services to youth in out of school time. \n\nFor the youth served by PASE\, knowledge of college often comes from the staff of community-based organizations\, who can be a critical ally in your institution’s efforts to identify and recruit talented low-income\, traditionally underrepresented minorities\, and/or first generation students.\n \n\nAfterschool professionals often provide vital college prep services\, relieving the workload of over-burdened guidance counselors\, and serve as a liaison to parents\, many of whom are unfamiliar with the college preparation and application process. Educating this staff about your institution’s offerings allows you to better advocate for the appropriate students to apply to your school.\n \n\nAs a participant in the fair\, you will be assigned a table to showcase your college\, distribute materials\, and hold discussions with attendees. The event will also include panel presentations from higher education institution representatives and community-based organization representatives on key aspects of the admissions\, matriculation\, and college persistence\, followed by the fair.\n \n\nTo RSVP\, please click here to complete a short registration form.\n \n\nJune 9\, 2014 at 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM \n\nBarnard College3009 Broadway\, James Room (4th Floor)New York\, NY 10027

SUMMARY:In-House Counsel and Attorney-Client Privilege
DESCRIPTION:Partner Michael B. Hayes will be a presenter for “In-House Counsel and Attorney-Client Privilege” presented by Strafford Publications\, Inc. This CLE webinar will prepare in-house counsel to minimize potential damage to the corporation during business communications\, depositions and litigation through proper exercise of the attorney-client privilege to protect confidential information.\n \n\nThe in-house attorney’s dual role as legal and business advisor to the corporation raises complex legal questions regarding conflict of interest and the attorney-client privilege. To increase the likelihood of success in asserting the attorney-client privilege in depositions and future litigation\, in-house counsel should carefully distinguish legal services from business advice in routine work matters. Counsel must clearly indicate when acting in a professional legal capacity.\n \n\nOnce litigation has ensued\, in-house counsel must make strategic determinations regarding which communications are potentially privileged and whether and how to invoke the privilege to protect those communications. The panel of experienced practitioners explains how in-house counsel can distinguish between discoverable facts and privileged communications-and between business advice and legal advice. The panel will also provide strategies for supporting the application of the attorney-client privilege to certain communications.\n \n\nVisit staffordpub.com for more information.\n \n\nDecember 3\, 2014 at 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM
