SUMMARY:State Charitable Solicitation Statutes: Everything You Wanted to Know But Were Afraid to Ask
DESCRIPTION:Montgomery McCracken partners Don Kramer and Karl Emerson will present the “State Charitable Solicitation Statutes: Everything You Wanted to Know But Were Afraid to Ask” webinar.\n \n\nCharities that seek contributions nationally must typically register in 39 states and the District of Columbia before starting to solicit. Furthermore\, for-profit fundraisers are also required to register and file their contracts and other documentation with many states. Since many states are increasing their enforcement efforts to ensure that charities and fundraisers are complying with initial and annual registration requirements\, it’s important that charities and fundraisers abide by these statutes-especially since noncompliance can result in the imposition of significant fines and penalties.\n \n\nClick here to register for the webinar.\n \n\nOctober 17\, 2013 at 1:30 PM – 3:00 AM

SUMMARY:Lobbying and Electioneering for Nonprofits
DESCRIPTION:Montgomery McCracken partner Don Kramer will serve as a speaker for the Lobbying and Electioneering for Nonprofits webinar. \n \n\nEvery year is election year. And every session of the Congress\, state legislature\, or local government offers the possibility of public policy change that can significantly affect the work of nonprofit organizations. \n \n\nTherefore\, nonprofits are concerned about what they may and may not do to influence elections and public policy. This webinar will discuss those issues with particular emphasis on the limitations on lobbying and electioneering by charities.  It will also offer practical advice on setting up relationships with legislators so that your voice can be heard when an issue is pending that can affect your work.\n \n\nNonprofit Issues® editor Don Kramer will discuss how charities can lose their federal income tax exemption if they participate in political campaigns at any level.\n \n\nHe will also discuss how charities may take positions on legislative issues and why they may not be doing their job if they fail to do so. What counts as “lobbying” under the federal regulations? Do they have to worry about lobbying registration requirements?\n \n\nJoe Geiger\, former Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations and now President/CEO of the First Nonprofit Foundation\, will discuss proven methods of developing relationships with legislators so that they see you as a legitimate resource to help them understand issues.\n \n\nIf your organization\, your clients\, or your issues are affected by public policy\, you will want to participate in this webinar.\n \n\nWe will provide background materials to elaborate on the discussion. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists during and after the presentation. \n \n\nClick here to register and for more information.\n \n\nSeptember 17\, 2013 at 1:30 AM – 3:00 PM

Board service is a serious commitment. It can be exhilarating\, rewarding and a lot of fun. Or it can be a drag and an imposition. Learn how to attract top quality people to a charity board and what those top quality prospects should consider in deciding whether to accept. “Due diligence” applies on both sides of the recruitment process. Some of the issues and the key questions to ask will be discussed by lawyers who work with nonprofit organizations and serve on numerous nonprofit boards.\n \n\nPanelists: Donald W.
