SUMMARY:Second Biannual Matthew Gfeller Sport-Related Neurotrauma Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Montgomery McCracken partner Steven Pachman presented “Concussion: A Case-By-Case Approach…to Litigation” to hundreds of athletic trainers\, other health care professionals\, and others at the Second Biannual Matthew Gfeller Sports-Related Neurotrauma Symposium held recently at the University of North Carolina\, Chapel Hill. With reported head injuries on the rise for professional and youth players alike\, Pachman discussed how coaches\, athletic trainers\, schools\, and school officials can better recognize and respond to concussions and other head injuries and minimize associated liability risk. \n\nPachman is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department. Part of his practice is devoted to advising school officials and attorneys\, risk managers\, athletic trainers and athletic departments\, physicians\, and other health care professionals on institutional liability issues concerning sport-related concussions\, Second Impact Syndrome\, and other sports’ injuries. Pachman has represented individuals and school systems in multiple catastrophic injury cases arising out of alleged premature return-to-play decisions and other negligence theories in the sports’ context\, including a university\, an athletic trainer\, and others in a recent high-profile\, nationally-publicized lawsuit involving a catastrophically-injured football player who allegedly sustained a concussion and Second Impact Syndrome.\n \n\nFor more information\, please visit tbicenter.unc.edu.
