Ernest D. Holtzheimer Elected Chair of the Business Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association, Jon C. Hughes Elected to Executive Committee

Montgomery McCracken is pleased to announce Ernest D. Holtzheimer was elected Chair of the Business Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association (effective January 1, 2021). Holtzheimer formerly served as the Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Business Law Section. In his role as Chair, Holtzheimer will also serve as the Section’s representative on the Bar Association’s Board of Governors. Holtzheimer is continuing tradition and following in the footsteps of former Montgomery McCracken Managing Partner John S. Estey who served as Chair of the Business Law Section in 1976.

One of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s oldest and largest sections, the Business Law Section offers business lawyers numerous educational opportunities across a broad range of substantive areas as well as opportunities to network with other attorneys sharing similar professional interests. The Section’s committees plan continuing legal education programs and keep their members up to date on current events in more than a dozen substantive areas.

Holtzheimer is a member of the firm’s Business Department and is Co-Chair of the Private Capital and Emerging Companies practice group. Ernie concentrates his practice in domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, and general corporate matters. He has counseled numerous clients in a wide variety of industries with respect to their general operations, structure, governance, and in connection with complex transactions.

An active member of the community, Holtzheimer serves on the Executive Advisory Board of Special Olympics PA, the Executive Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, the leadership of the ABA Private Equity and Venture Capital Committee, and the Board of Directors of both the Philadelphia Diversity Law Group Alumni Association and Philadelphia Area Diversity Job Fair. Ernie is also an editor of Montgomery McCracken’s Private Business Counsel blog and a member of the firm’s Diversity and Associates Committees.

Holtzheimer received his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law, with a Business and Entrepreneurship Concentration. He earned an M.B.A. degree in Finance and B.S. degrees, cum laude, in Entrepreneurship and Business Management with a focus on International Studies, from Rowan University William G. Rohrer College of Business, where he now serves as an adjunct professor, on the Entrepreneurship Advisory Council and as Managing Director of the Rowan Innovation Venture Fund.

Joining Holtzheimer on the Business Law Section Executive Committee is Montgomery McCracken partner Jon C. Hughes. Hughes was elected to the committee (effective January 1, 2021). Hughes is a member of the firm’s Business Department and Co-Chair of the Private Capital and Emerging Companies practice group. He focuses his practice on advising public and privately held entities on business transactions including securities offerings, corporate finance, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and financial services.

Hughes earned his LL.M. in Taxation from the New York University School of Law. He earned his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and received his B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.
