Georgette Castner Confirmed to Serve as a United States District Court Judge in New Jersey

Montgomery McCracken is extremely pleased to announce that Georgette Fries Castner has been confirmed to serve as a United States District Court Judge in New Jersey. Castner, located in the firm’s Cherry Hill office, is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department.
Following recommendations from U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker, Castner was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. to a lifetime appointment to the federal bench on November 3. The confirmation makes Castner the youngest woman to serve as a federal judge in the 232-year history of the District of New Jersey. Castner was confirmed by a vote of 52-47.
Castner, co-chair of the firm’s Cannabis Law Practice Group and a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee, focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation and white collar and government investigations and represents individuals, businesses and government entities in a range of industries.
Castner formerly served on the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Character and the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Model Civil Jury Charges.
Prior to joining Montgomery McCracken, Castner served as a law clerk for the Honorable Joseph F. Lisa of the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division. Before law school, Georgette served as Chief of Staff and Director of Constituent Affairs for a member of the New Jersey General Assembly. She managed the Legislative District Office and staff, coordinated the member’s legislative agenda and bill drafting, and negotiated bill drafts and amendments with committee aides, lobbyists, and other interest groups.
Castner earned a law degree, with honors, from Rutgers University School of Law – Camden, where she was selected as a Governor’s Executive Fellow and served as Research Editor for the Rutgers Law Journal, and earned her B.S. degree, cum laude, from The College of New Jersey.
