Today Montgomery McCracken celebrates Associate Jessica Richman’s win at the First Annual Fight Night at The Sporting Club at the Bellevue in Philadelphia.  The boxing event held May 22, 2010, raised money for PAWS animal shelter’s “Save a Bull Initiative.” Richman joined other club members and employees of The Sporting Club in fighting to save abandoned, homeless, and unwanted animals.

After scoring a knock-down in the second round, Richman went on to victory by decision after the full three rounds, defeating Sporting Club Assistant General Manager Amy Stratton. To prepare for this event Richman and the other participants in Clif’s Champion Challenge underwent seven weeks of rigorous training with The Sporting Club’s legendary boxing coach, Clif Johnson.  Richman’s routine included cardiovascular and muscular conditioning workouts seven days a week, boxing skills training three to four days a week, and ringwork or sparring three days a week.  Of the forty-six original participants in Clif’s Champion Challenge, only 20 earned the chance to compete on Fight Night.”

The grueling conditioning workouts and the expert coaching I got from Clif and his assistant coach, Walt Moura, gave me the confidence to win my first match,” said Richman.  “I had been training with Clif for over ten years, but this intensive program allowed me to finally move off the heavy bag and into the ring.”  Richman continued, “Boxing and litigation are natural partners for me.  In both, you’re looking for openings to make your points while protecting yourself at all times.  Plus, once you’ve stood toe to toe with someone trying to knock you out, standing in a courtroom to make an argument just isn’t that intimidating.”

The ticket proceeds from Fight Night went to the “The Save a Bull Initiative” which rehabilitates the reputation of pit bulls and reduces the number of animals killed in Philadelphia’s shelters.

Richman is an eighth-year associate in the firm’s Litigation Department where her practice concentrates on products liability litigation, mass torts defense, commercial litigation, and professional liability defense.  She was selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers – Rising Stars 2010 for Pennsylvania.

Prior to joining Montgomery McCracken, Ms. Richman served as a law clerk for the United States Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and for the United States Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of New York.
