Pennsylvania Governor Wolf Reappoints Mark B. Sheppard to the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Montgomery McCracken partner Mark B. Sheppard was recently reappointed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf to the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing. Mr. Sheppard, who serves as Co-Chair of the firm’s White Collar and Government Investigations Practice Group , was selected by Governor Wolf to serve a second term as one of 11 Commission members, each of whom is appointed for a two-year term.

The Commission was created in 1978 and is comprised of 11 members, appointed by the Governor, the Supreme Court and General Assembly.  The Commission is charged with formulating sentencing guidelines that promote fairer and more uniform sentencing throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Commission collects data and information to systematically monitor and report on conformity to guidelines, advises and consults on policy and practices, and undertakes research and evaluation to determine the effectiveness of guidelines.

Mr. Sheppard focuses his practice on the representation of corporations, public officials and individuals in matters involving federal, state and administrative enforcement activity, including federal criminal investigations, SEC enforcement actions and government initiated civil proceedings.  He also regularly counsels clients on conducting internal investigations and implementation of corporate compliance policies.  He is a frequent speaker in the area of criminal defense and has at various times testified before the United States and Pennsylvania Senate Judiciary Committees on topics such as indigent defense and preservation of the attorney-client privilege. He is a Past President of the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and has served as a member of the Joint State Government Commission’s Advisory Committee on the Philadelphia Court System and as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Mr. Sheppard also serves on a number of charitable Boards, most notably, Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers of Pennsylvania, the Mirmont Treatment Center and the M. Patricia Carroll Fund

Mr. Sheppard is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New York and received a J.D. degree, with honors, from the Dickinson School of Law.
