Robert H. Bender Appointed to Military Assistance Project Board of Directors

PHILADELPHIA – Montgomery McCracken is pleased to announce Robert H. Bender has been appointed to the board of directors of the Military Assistance Project (MAP). MAP provides active duty and reserve military and veterans nationally with legal representation in bankruptcy, consumer law, and veterans’ administrative law issues. Since its founding in 2011, the organization has helped 1,300 clients discharge more than $13 million in debt. Bender’s role will primarily consist of strategic planning to increase MAP’s legal service projects and collaboration with local and national veterans’ services and organizations.

Bender is an associate in Montgomery McCracken’s Litigation Department. Prior to his legal career, Bender served five years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Captain.  He served as a Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer with 9th Communication Battalion, where he deployed to Iraq, and also served as the Inspector-Instructor Officer in Charge for Marine Wing Communication Squadron 48.

He is a mentor in the Philadelphia Veterans Court. Bender is also active in the legal community and is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. In addition, he is the on the Executive Committee for the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association (YLD) and previously served as the Military Affairs Committee’s Liaison to YLD.

Bender received a J.D. degree from Temple University, James Beasley School of Law in 2015 where he served as a Note/Comment Editor on the Temple Political and Civil Rights Law Review and was active in student government. He was awarded the Lena L. Hale Award for outstanding extracurricular contributions to the law school community. Bender earned a B.S. degree in History from the United States Naval Academy in 2007, where he was a member of the Lightweight Rowing Team.
