Ed Flood is a partner in Montgomery McCracken’s Litigation Department and a member of the firm’s Maritime and Transportation Industry Group, Ed has concentrated his practice in admiralty and maritime law since leaving the U.S. Navy. He presently represents a number of blue water and brown water clients, ranging from ocean container carriers, including one of the world’s largest, to tug and barge companies, P&I Clubs, and domestic underwriters. Ed has significant experience successfully handling complex casualty cases, including In re M/V MSC FLAMINIA which involved a vessel explosion at sea and later demined by a district court and affirmed on appeal to have been caused by misrepresentations committed by the shipper of the hazardous cargo and its NVOCC. A large part of Ed’s practice also includes the defense of cargo claims and personal injury and wrongful death litigation.
In addition to his core litigation practice, Ed advises vessel owners and operators—ranging from large commercial fleets to coastal tug companies—on a host of business/legal maritime related issues.
Before joining Montgomery McCracken, Ed was a co-founder of another New York admiralty law firm that remained active for over 25 years. Ed began his career, serving as a Judge Advocate in the United States Navy, where he tried over 100 courts-martial and administrative hearings.
Ed earned his J.D. degree from New England School of Law. He also received his L.L.M in Admiralty from Tulane University Law School. He earned his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Boston College.
