Joel B. Rosen, United States Magistrate Judge (Ret.) serves as senior counsel in Montgomery McCracken’s Litigation Department. He maintains his mediation practice while serving as an invaluable resource to the firm’s clients by providing them with counseling and strategic advice in the areas of mediation, deposition, litigation, trial, jury and jury selection, and the overall judicial process - all on a complimentary basis.
In addition to counseling the firm’s clients, Joel acts as a mentor to Montgomery McCracken attorneys by advising them on a wide variety of topics, including ethics, risk management, and effective pre-trial and trial techniques.
Joel has mediated thousands of cases and presided over numerous civil jury and bench trials, and criminal misdemeanor trials throughout his 20-year judicial career. He has served as a Special Master in both state and federal courts in matters involving mass torts, environmental issues, insurance coverage disputes, as well as a variety of class actions. He has a broad knowledge of criminal process and procedure in both the federal and state venues.
Joel served as an assistant United States attorney and was the attorney-in-charge of the United States Attorney’s Office in Camden, New Jersey. During his tenure, he received several commendations from the Department of Justice for his efforts in connection with prosecutions involving organized crime and political corruption. Joel is also a former deputy attorney general in the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice where he was chief of the Special Prosecutions Section. Prior to his judicial career and serving as a deputy attorney general, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Mitchell H. Cohen, Chief Judge, United States District Court, District of New Jersey.
