Pennsylvania lawmakers are working on a bill to legalize cannabis for adult recreational use in Pennsylvania, and local law firms stand to gain a boom in business if it passes this summer.
Alongside the overall increase in business, attorneys should also expect to see an increase in competition in the cannabis market. Horn, Magee, Fekete and Murphy all indicated that law firms would most likely launch their own cannabis practices in response to cannabis legalization and increased demand for services in that space.
“I think there are a good number of players already in the arena,” Fekete acknowledged, but he also felt that “you will continue to see firms creating practices to address cannabis-related issues.”
“Just based on the size of Pennsylvania, it’s a substantially larger state [compared with New Jersey],” he added. “[Cannabis practices] will kind of proliferate further than what it is in the current time.”
