Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads, LLP partner Christopher Scott D’Angelo received the Product Liability Advisory Council’s Distinguished Service Award at the Product Liability Advisory Council’s Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Dinner held recently in Las Vegas in recognition of many years of dedicated service to the Product Liability Advisory Council and it projects.

The Product Liability Advisory Council, Inc. (“PLAC”) is a nonprofit association with 120 corporate members representing a broad cross-section of American and international product manufacturers.  In addition, several hundred leading product liability defense attorneys are sustaining members of PLAC.  PLAC seeks to contribute to the improvement and reform of law in the United States and elsewhere, with emphasis on the law governing the liability of manufacturers of products.  PLAC’s perspective derives from the experiences of a corporate membership that spans a diverse group of industries in various facets  of the manufacturing sector.  Since 1983, PLAC has filed over 800 briefs as amicus curiae in state and federal courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States, presenting the broad perspective of product manufacturers seeking fairness and balance in the application and development of product liability law.

Mr. D’Angelo is a partner in the Litigation Department at Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads, LLP and is Chairman of its Products Liability & Mass Torts Section and Vice Chairman of its Sports, Entertainment & Amusements Law Practice.  His practice emphasizes litigation and preventive counseling in the fields of business and business torts, intellectual property, class actions, and products liability, including in his role as national counsel for several major U.S. clients and his representation of foreign concerns in the United States and United States concerns abroad.  Mr. D’Angelo is a member of The American Law Institute and several of its Members Consultative Groups, a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel (where he recently served on the Board of Directors and is a past Chairman of its Business Litigation Committee and past Vice Chairman of its International Committee), a member of the Product Liability Advisory Council (where he served on its Executive Committee), a member of the Defense Research Institute (where he served as the Chairman of its International Law Committee and as Co-Chairman of its European Corporate Outreach Committee), the International Bar Association, the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (in particular, its Products Liability Committee and Business Litigation Committee), and of the American, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations. 

Mr. D’Angelo is a member of The American Law Institute, and participated extensively in the creation of the Restatement (Third) of Torts: Products Liability, which was adopted in May, 1997 and of the Restatement of Apportionment, which was adopted in May, 2000.  Mr. D’Angelo is also a member of the ALI’s Members Consultative Groups on the Restatement of Torts: General Principles; Restatement of Torts: Liability for Economic Loss; Intellectual Property: Principles Governing Jurisdiction, Choice of Law, and Judgments in Transnational Disputes; Principles of the Law of Aggregate Litigation; Principles of the Law of Software Contracts and Restatement of Trusts, and on Article 2 (Sales) of the Uniform Commercial Code.

Mr. D’Angelo is also a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel (where he is on the Faculty of its Corporate Counsel College and its International Corporate Counsel College, recently served on its Board of Directors, has served as Chairman of its Business Litigation Committee, Vice Chairman of its International Committee, and as a member of the Faculty of its Trial Academy), the Product Liability Advisory Council (where he served on its Executive Committee and currently serves on its Bylaws Committee), the Defense Research Institute (where he served on the Steering Committee for the Second and Third Joint International Conferences and as Co-Chairman of its European Corporate Outreach Committee), the International Bar Association, the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (where he serves on its Corporate Counsel Symposium), and the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel. He is a member of the American, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Bar Associations.

Mr. D’Angelo is listed in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, and Who’s Who in the World, and in The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers and The International Who’s Who of Product Liability Lawyers.

Mr. D’Angelo is a frequent speaker and author on a range of law-related matters.  His presentations have involved such topics as products liability and business litigation, multi-national litigation, privacy issues, information and documents management, and issues involving the internet and the use of the internet in litigation and investigations.

Mr. D’Angelo received both his B.A. with distinction and with Honors in History (1975) and his J.D. (1978) from the University of Virginia.
