Burlington County’s next prosecutor has worked in the White House and consulted on cases around the country, but now he’s taking a job closer to home.
Scott Coffina, 49, of Marlton, was confirmed as the replacement for Prosecutor Robert D. Bernardi at a Senate hearing March 13.
“The county prosecutor role is an important role in the New Jersey system and it’s an incredible opportunity to do good and do justice. I think that’s what motivated Scott to do this,” said Paul Zoubek, a partner in Montgomery, McCracken, Walker & Rhoads.
Zoubek said Coffina is dedicated to Burlington County, where he lives with his wife and three kids.
He knows the issues facing the county, including the opioid epidemic, Zoubek said. “Part of being the prosecutor is identifying and highlighting issues and looking at the method of it, not just charging people,” he said.
Zoubek said Coffina’s personality “will help in establishing relationships with the community and the police departments, at a time when those relationships are important.” As the top law enforcer, he can help promote the importance of community policing, Zoubek said.
