Kristen Polovoy and Julie Chelius, featured speakers

Kristen E. Polovoy and Julie H. Chelius, attorneys with Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads, LLP, were planners and presenters for the Perrin Conferences CLE webinar “Consumer Fraud Product Labeling Class Actions: One Label, Very Different Perspectives — Plaintiffs, Defendants and the Government.”  Polovoy discussed: the recent wave of national class action consumer fraud product labeling claims; strategies that companies use to defend such cases from both liability and class certification perspectives; clients’ business concerns stemming from these food labeling class actions, such as potential individual officer liability; anticipation and management of e-discovery obligations, both to mount defenses in potential labeling lawsuits and to avoid litigation sanctions; and future trends in the food labeling class action arena, such as genetically modified organism litigation.  Chelius addressed the activities of federal agencies responsible for monitoring food labeling, the applicable statutes and regulations governing food labeling issues, federal law preemption arguments, and the recent surge of “natural” label litigation.

Polovoy serves as of counsel in Montgomery McCracken’s Litigation Department in its Cherry Hill, New Jersey office.  As a member of the firm’s class action defense practice, she has successfully represented several national companies in consumer fraud class action lawsuits.  Polovoy chairs the Class Action Practice Committee of the Camden County Bar Association and speaks and writes frequently on the subject of class action defense and product labeling class actions.

Chelius is a partner in the Litigation Department at Montgomery McCracken.  Chelius’s practice focuses on the defense of product liability claims, including claims involving products subject to regulation by the FDA and other governmental agencies.  She has advised and defended clients in cases involving medical devices and pharmaceuticals, settlement trusts, fire and safety products, wine distribution, and construction materials in class action, multidistrict and other complex litigation.
