Ethan Hougah Appointed to Serve as Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey

Montgomery McCracken is pleased to announce that Ethan Hougah has been appointed to serve as a Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Judge Hougah was a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department and was based in the firm’s Cherry Hill office.

Judge Hougah was sworn into office on July 23, 2026, by Chief Judge Renee Bumb of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. His appointment reflects the respect he has earned within the legal community, and Montgomery McCracken congratulates him on this well-deserved honor and knows he will serve the District of New Jersey with distinction.

At Montgomery McCracken, Judge Hougah represented clients in criminal and civil investigations, internal investigations, and regulatory matters. In addition, Judge Hougah served as counsel in a variety of civil and criminal matters before the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Prior to entering private practice, Judge Hougah served as a law clerk to the Hon. Karen M. Williams and the Hon. Steven C. Mannion in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Judge Hougah also has served on the Board of Trustees for the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey.

Judge Hougah received his Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School and his Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from Rutgers University. During law school, Judge Hougah worked as a student attorney, representing indigent clients before the Massachusetts Superior Court.
