Internet Defamation – a Pennsylvania Bar Institute Seminar

August 31, 2010

Montgomery McCracken attorney Jeremy Mishkin will serve as a panelist for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s “Internet Defamation” seminar.

This seminar seeks to explain how use of the internet changes the common law attributes of defamation. The Internet is an instantaneous worldwide method of communicaition and this form presents special problems when examining the traditional case of defamation.   The presenters will provide answers to these, and many more, of the most pressing questions that arise in these unique circumstances:

  • What does it mean to publish or injure someone’s reputation?
  • How do you go about determining harm?
  • How has the Internet changed since its inception?
  • What effect have social networking sites had on the traditional defamation case
  • How has the Internet given rise to non-defamation claims such as: invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress?
