Montgomery McCracken Adds Two Members to IP Department

Montgomery McCracken is pleased to announce the addition of Patrick J. Farley and Yi Lu to its Intellectual Property Department. Farley will serve as a partner and Lu as a patent agent. Both are located in the firm’s Philadelphia office.

Zaher, Chair of Montgomery McCracken’s Intellectual Property Department and Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer. “Patrick is an exceptional intellectual property lawyer with significant experience in patent prosecution and licensing and due diligence, and Yi is a highly skilled patent agent. We will draw on their vast experience to better serve our client base.”

Patrick has over 20 years of international experience in intellectual property law and concentrates his practice on all aspects of intellectual property, including patent drafting, patent prosecution, patent litigation, patent and trademark portfolio management, and licensing. He counsels companies in the biotechnology and pharmaceuticals industries with a particular focus on patent and trademark portfolios, agreements, and due diligence.

Prior to joining Montgomery McCracken, Farley served as in-house counsel in leading biotech companies Genentech Roche, MedImmune AstraZeneca, and Precigen, Inc.

Patrick earned his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law, his Ph.D. from Hahnemann University, his M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania, and his B.A. degree from Hamilton College.

Lu has over 15 years of experience in intellectual property law. He has experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications and trademark registrations in the United States and internationally, with a focus in China. Lu also has experience in the domestic appliance, transportation, mechanical, and medical device industries. He has been involved in nearly 20 patent invalidation proceedings before the Patent Reexamination Board (PRB) in China. Lu counsels clients in actively enforcing their IP rights against infringement in combination with the full spectrum of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and unfair competition.

Prior to joining Montgomery McCracken, Lu was a patent agent at a Chicago-based law firm.

Yi earned his LL.M. degree, cum laude, from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. He received a Masters in Mechanics and a B.S. degree in Engineering Mechanics from Tsinghua University.
