NEW YORK – Montgomery McCracken is pleased to announce the addition of Wook Chung to its Maritime and Transportation practice. Chung will serve as Of Counsel in the firm’s New York City office. Chung previously served as General Counsel at Hanjin Shipping America, LLC, and its North American subsidiaries for nearly 10 years, handling all aspects of corporate law and shipping and transportation law for the global transportation and logistics service provider.
Chung focuses his practice on commercial transactions and contract negotiations. He has provided counsel on litigation and risk management, and general business operation and development matters. He also has extensive experience handling regulatory and compliance issues, class actions, anti-trust and products liability litigation. Chung has been appointed as U.S. legal liaison for the Administrator of Hanjin Shipping Co. Ltd., in the U.S. Chapter 15 proceedings.
“Wook’s background and his breadth of knowledge as a long-time in-house attorney will enhance our capabilities to better serve clients nationwide and globally,” said John J. Levy, co-chair of the firm’s Maritime and Transportation practice.
Prior to Hanjin Shipping America, Chung was a consultant attorney for a prominent law firm in New York, where he provided counsel on international commercial transaction and litigation, and pretrial litigation. Chung also held various positions in Seoul, Korea, including counsel to a litigation law firm and counsel (JAG) to the Republic of Korea (South Korea) Air Force.
“This is an exciting development and Wook’s depth of experience will complement our group,” said Vincent M. DeOrchis, co-chair of the firm’s Maritime and Transportation practice. “He is an accomplished attorney with an inside view of the industry. We look forward to working with him. ”
Chung received a J.D. degree from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center and earned a B.A. degree from Rutgers University. He is fluent in English and Korean.
The addition of Chung is a reflection of Montgomery McCracken’s growth strategy geographically and by practice area. Last year, the firm’s New York office added Stephen Vengrow as a partner and Eric Chang as an associate from the maritime law firm of Cichanowicz Callan Keane Vengrow & Textor, LLP. The group has significantly grown over the past few years and plans to explore additional growth.
Montgomery McCracken’s Maritime and Transportation practice serves all sectors of the maritime industry including ship owners, charterers, pilots, cargo owners, shipyards, terminals, commodities traders, non-vessel operators and non-vessel operating common carriers. The multifaceted practice includes chartyparty, cargo and products claims; bankruptcy and restructuring; regulatory and FMC matters, pollution and casualty incidents; corporate and finance matters; sustainable growth; and defense of criminal investigations, including corporate compliance matters.
