Lathrop B. Nelson, III and John G. Papianou
Named Newest Firm Partners
Montgomery McCracken today announced that the firm has named Lathrop B. Nelson, III and John G. Papianou to its partnership, effective March 1, 2010. Mr. Nelson and Mr. Papianou are members of the Firm’s Litigation Department.
Lathrop B. Nelson, III represents clients in federal criminal matters involving antitrust, public corruption, health care fraud, tax fraud, and other federal offenses. He also represents companies and individuals in a variety of civil matters in state and federal court, including antitrust, securities, civil fraud, products liability, and breach of contract actions. He serves as counsel to a major software manufacturer in federal copyright and trademark infringement litigation in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Mr. Nelson is co-chair of the Philadelphia Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association’s White Collar Crime Committee and serves on the Chi Psi Fraternity’s National Executive Council. He is a member of the vestry of St. Peter’s Church of Philadelphia.
Mr. Nelson received a J.D. degree in 2001 from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served as Chief Justice of the William Minor Lile Moot Court Board and as a member of the Editorial Board of the Virginia Law Review. He graduated cum laude from Washington and Lee University in 1997 with a bachelor of arts degree in History and Politics. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
John G. Papianou concentrates his practice on commercial litigation, in particular, the defense of nationwide class action litigation. Since 2001, he has represented one of the world’s largest software companies in numerous class actions in federal and state courts, including indirect-purchaser antitrust cases and litigation alleging breach of warranty, unfair competition, unjust enrichment, and statutory consumer protection claims.
Mr. Papianou has also represented defendants in the chemical and paint industries in antitrust and consumer protection class actions. In addition, Mr. Papianou is a frequent speaker at CLEs on class actions and other litigation-related topics.
Mr. Papianou served on the executive committee of the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association from 2004 to 2007. This past year, Mr. Papianou helped start the Young Friends of the Curtis Institute of Music.
Mr. Papianou received a J.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 2001 and graduated from Long Island University, summa cum laude, with a bachelor of arts degree in English in 1996. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania.
